He was predeceased by : his parents, Reverend Benjamin M. Motley and Theresia Motley; his former life partner Elizabeth (Grubbs); and his siblings, Mamie Humphrey, Thomas Henry Motley, Ben Motley, Jr., Charlie C. Motley, Mary M. Goins, Ruth Holland, Ada Mae Starks and Marie Green.

He is survived by : his wife Zula; and his children, Bernard and Veronica.
