We announce the death of Mary L. Coates of Akron, Ohio, born in Evergreen, Alabama, who passed away on September 3, 2026, at the age of 82. Mary will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her husband Arthur Coates Sr.; her parents, Bennie Carter and Artimese Carter; and her sisters, Margaret Ann Douglas and Evelyn Carter.
She is survived by: her children, Cathy Coates-Brown, Myra R. Snipes (Kirby), Shelia A. Primas (Charles) and Arthur Coates Jr. (Tracey); her grandchildren, Teneisha Brown, Anthony Brown Jr., Portia Snipes, Nathan Snipes, Charles Primas Jr., Ashley Primas and Aubrey Coates; her great grandchild Anthony Jackson III; her siblings, Bennie Carter Jr. (Tanya), Bernice Parker (Floyd Sr.), Blanche Carter, Henry Carter (Brenda), Harold Carter and Loretta Carter; and her brother-in-law Gerome Douglas.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church (442 Bell St A, Akron, OH 44307). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
