He was predeceased by: his parents, Ed Lee and Lillie Ridgeway (Vandable); his wife Mable Watson; his children, Alice and Richard, Jr.; his siblings, Ed Lee, Jr., Honnie, Thad, Willie, Tom and Delia Baker; and his stepchildren, Eric Watson, Yolanda "Yonnie" Wilson and Cynthia "Snuffy" Fletcher.

He is survived by: his nephew Howard; his children, Diane Myers, Linda Nicholson (Robert), Joyce Ridgeway and Anthony Ridgeway (Linda); his stepchildren, Walter "Skip" Watson, Jr., Teresa Bell (Ronald), Herbert "Herbie" Watson, Brenda Collins (Michael) and Karen Rice; his sisters, Alice Crowther and Lillie Bea Waters; and his sisters-in-law, Geneva Ridgeway and Lula Mae Burkett.
