She was predeceased by : her parents, Jiles P. Smitherman and Bernice Banks; her husband Willis Spencer; her siblings, Regina Cephas and Peter J. Smitherman; and her nephew Johnny Cephas.

She is survived by : her sons, Lamont J (Smitherman) and Robert L. Smitherman; her sisters, Yvette C. Davis and Tanya D Smitherman; her nieces and nephews, Antonio Cephas, William Cephas, Eugene P Cephas, David Cortijo, Charisse Smitherman and Brandy Davis; and her grandchildren, Anecia, Essence, Skylar Smitherman, Jaden Sankey, Kendell, Arnez, Brooklynn and Hezekiah Smitherman.
