She was predeceased by: her parents, Sam Payton Jr. and Florean May Fortner; her husband Jack T. Avery; her son Michael Payton; and her siblings, Nancy Stewart, Sylvester Payton, Eugene Payton, Robert Payton, Alvin Fortner and Bennie Fortner.
She is survived by: her children, Jacqueline Avery, Keith Avery and Gary Avery (Trineshia); and her siblings, Cheryl Gray Grimes (Marion), Ola Fortner, Roosevelt Fortner Jr. and Willie Fortner. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of special friends.
