He was predeceased by: his former wife Betty Mahaffy (Gottschlich); his wife Willa Dean Mahaffy (McGuire); his parents, Ildon Mahaffy and Elizabeth Mahaffy (Curtin); his siblings, Rolland "Beanie" Mahaffy (Ruth), Effie Myers (Forrest), Sharon Johnson (Paul "Ike") and Judy Mahaffy; and his nephew Jeremiah "JD" Johnson.
He is survived by: his close friend Jane Brown; his daughter Katherine Scarberry (Donnie); his stepdaughters, Lori Overholtz (Tobey), Debbie Kennedy (Martin) and Diane Anderson; and his grandchildren, Audrey Bolin, Isaac Mahaffy, Rachel Ellis (Justin), Clinton Overholtz (Harley), Dalton Overholtz (Katie) and Sarah Hoover (Aric). He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
