He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Hayes and Mattie Hayes (Fugitt); his wife Joan Hayes (Bobst); his brothers, Oscar Hayes Jr. and Martin Hayes (Mart); and his brother-in-law John Danner.
He is survived by: his children, Lawrence "Gene" Hayes Jr. (Carol) of Ashville, Penny Roberts (Edison) of Clarksburg and Diana Kirk (Brian) of Lockbourne; his grandchildren, Helen Righman, Heather Scott, Amy Neal, Carrie Angles, Sarah Inks, Brian Kirk Jr. Phillip Kirk, Rita Kirk, Matthew Kirk and Mindy Fitch; and his siblings, Walter Hayes (Vivian), JoMarie Danner, Charlie Hayes (Stella), Rose Ann Hickey (John) and Linda Boyer (Jim). He is also survived by numerous great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
