James Smith Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of James Smith (Athens, Ohio), who passed away on February 20, 2026 at the age of 81. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman Smith and Beatrice Droz Smith; and his brothers-in-law, Charles Summers, Mike Carmichael and Danny Carmichael.
He is survived by: his wife Jorae Carmichael Smith; his children, Teresa Schleter (David) of The Plains and Michael Smith of The Plains; his grandchildren, Allison, Kyle Schleter, Zachary and Benjamin Smith; his sisters, Barbara Summers of Athens and Linda Fowler (Neil) of The Plains; and his sister-in-law Daire Miner of Albany. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Athens High School Athletic Boosters or the Athens High School Band Boosters.
