He was predeceased by : his parents, Howard Charles Sams and Barbara Fausnaugh Sams; his wife Beverly Herdrich Sams; his son Douglas Sams; and his siblings, Norma Marin, Pauline, Helen Sams, Harold Sams, Roger Sams and Howard Sams, Jr..

He is survived by : his close friend Betty Snow Rosser; his children, Christine Stern of Bowie, MD, Tina Sams-Torrez (Richard) of Crofton, MD and Richard Sams (Jeff Priscott) of Columbus; his grandchildren, Chris Jacques (Megan), Tommy Gervais and Tara Wynne Walters (Mike); his great grandchildren, Logan Jacques, Ellie Walters and Charlie Walters; his siblings, Irene Dishong of Athens and Larry Sams (Carol) of Perrysville; his pet Digger; and his close friend Nigel. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shade Community Center Association, 2380 Old State Route 33, Shade, OH 45776.
