We announce the death of Sylvia Spears of Athens, Ohio, who passed away on August 6, 2026, at the age of 46. She was predeceased by: her sister Cassandra D'Orazio; her grandmother Alice Broxton; and her uncle David Eli Owen. She is survived by: her husband Greg Spears of Athens; her children, Eli Owen of Texas, Leroy Owen-Carter of Arizona, Mackenzie Spears of Athens County and Jamie Spears of Athens County; her stepchildren, Ronald Eakins of Athens County and Jessica Flipse of Athens County; her parents, Jesse Owen (Joan) of Texas and Sandra Carpenter (Walter) of Jacksonville; her siblings, Gordon Owen (Nancy) of Texas and Amanda D'Orazio of Texas; her mother-in-law Nancy Cupp of Athens County; and her stepmother Deborah Owen of Texas. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
