He is survived by: his son Nathaniel Kooistra; his nieces and nephews, Cynthia Kelly (Kevin), Kurt Schueler (Brian), Hank Schueler (Laurie), Orion Kooistra (Kara) and Kate Niedermeyer (Patrick); his brother John E. Kooistra; and his son Nate.
