He was predeceased by : his parents, Joe Helton and Roxie Helton; his father-in-law Frank Gullett; his brothers, Willie Phipps, Johnny Phipps and David Helton; his nephews, Tim Phipps, Anthony Phipps, Jeremy Henry and Justin Helton; his niece Anita Phipps; and his sisters-in-law, Claudette Phipps, Judy Phipps and Valerie Helton.

He is survived by : his wife Shirley Gullett Helton; his daughter Tessie Malone (Brian) of Waverly, Ohio.; his grandchildren, Blake Malone, Rylee Helton, Skylar White, Jace White and Crosby DeWeese; his siblings, Shirlene Helton, Gerald Helton, Randall Helton and Wendell Helton (Sandra); and his mother-in-law Anna Sue Gullett. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
