He was predeceased by: his parents, Ora Payne and Florence Payne-Eastman (Hardy); his son Joe Payne; and his siblings, Jeanne Ann Bauman and Kenny Payne.

He is survived by: his children, Carrie Dolan (Kenny) of Bellefontaine, Maggie Birt (Jerry) of Bellefontaine and John Payne of Bellefontaine; and his siblings, Bob Payne (Shirley) of Bellefontaine, Myron Payne of East Liberty, Peg Ball (Steve) of Dayton and Sue Prater of Dayton. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
