He was predeceased by : his parents, Eugene Smothers and Hazel Bennett (Warner). He is survived by : his wife Katherine (Green); his children, Joseph Smothers of California, Stephanie McKinley (Jim) of New York and Debbie Smothers of California; and his sister Connie Smith of Fort Collins, Colorado.. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Saturday, April 20th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses (5014 Hayes Ave, Sandusky, OH 44870). A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 20th 2024 at 4:00 PM at the same location.
