He was predeceased by : his brothers, Charles and Rick; and his parents, Charles Penney and Bernice Penney. He is survived by : his wife Patricia; his children, Carey Penney, Amy Penney (Dennis Lascko), Scott Penney (Brandice Hunt) and Stephanie Dinger (Kenny); and his grandchildren, Tyler Dailey, Sean Dailey, Dakota Ballachino, Beyonca Fitzgerald, Donovan Fitzgerald, Nathan Hunt, Logan Hunt and Evelyn Penney.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are suggested to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org.
