She was predeceased by: her parents, Chelmar Newell and Dorothy Williamson Newell. She is survived by: her husband Charles "Shug" Higginbotham; her nephew Mike Benson (DeeDee); her great-nephews, Mikie Benson, Scott Benson (Jennie), Tyler Benson, Stephen Ray Benson and Nate Benson; and her close friend Julie Benson Jeffries. She is also survived by 5 great-great nieces and nephews, and 3 great great-great nieces and nephews.
