He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Schaefer and Gertrude Schaefer; his siblings, Joseph Schaefer, Charles "Chuck" Schaefer (Stella), Calvin "Bud" Schaefer, Elizabeth "Betty" Yatson (James), Delores Cole (James), Cindy Moore (Gary) and Darlene Schaefer; and his brother-in-law Ronald Victor.
He is survived by: his children, Traci Schaefer and John R. Jr. Schaefer (Dan); his grandchildren, Chelesa Mrazik, Shelby Mrazik, Michael Mrazik Jr. and Kayleigh Jo Bair; his sister Mary Victor; his sister-in-law Diane Schaefer; and his wife Sharon. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
