He was predeceased by: his parents, Edmund Butler and Sarah Butler; his wife Martha; and his siblings, James Butler, Thomas Butler, Mary Ritz and Marcella Butler.

He is survived by: his children, Stephen J Butler (Carrie) and Jane A Merchant (Larry); and his grandchildren, Anthony, Andrew (Nikki), Adrienne (Joe), Jennifer (Brad) and Joseph (Nichole). He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren.
