He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Carl and Valeria Inez Helbig (Jones); his wife Sharon Lee Smith; his children, Stacy Helbig-Knueve of Bryan, Ohio, Jonathon Helbig (Heather) of Gibbstown and Joel Helbig (Sarah) of Toledo, Ohio; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Knueve, Jillian Knueve, Kaitlyn Helbig, Grant Helbig and Samuel Helbig; his sister Judith Stewart (James) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; his nephew Bradley Stewart (Lori) of Valparaso; his niece Shelby Dornte (Craig) of Fort Wayne, Indiana.; his stepfather Robert Stabler; his parents-in-law, Nadene Smith and Leo "Jeff" Smith; and his pet Larry.

He is survived by: his caregiver Homecare.
