He was predeceased by: his parents, Juan O. Barrera and Maria A. Barrera (Rodriguez); his stepson Gabriel Mendez; his grandson Brady Taube; his sisters, Olga Barrera and Rosie Zimmerman; and his niece Rachel Altaffer.

He is survived by: his wife Pamela Sue Clark; his children, Ruby Husted (Christopher), Johnny Stantz (Teresa), Dave Mendez, Quinlan Mendez (Britt) and Benjamin Mendez; his nephew Joshua Barrera; his siblings, Davey Barrera, Grace Hutchinson, Diolanda Barrera and Dora Winzeler (George); and his pet Trixie. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.

Memorials in honor of Juan may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
