He was predeceased by : his parents, Elmer Jacob and Cora Kafer (Welty); his wife Jane Kafer of Bucyrus; his son James A. Kafer; and his siblings, Virgil Kafer, Ernest "Tom" Kafer, Elenora Gray, Irene Baldosser Dobbins and Marie Schultz.

He is survived by : his son Roger; his daughter-in-law Maryann Kafer; his granddaughter Sarah Kafer Mill (Nick); his great grandchildren, Charlotte and Kellan; and also Kathy Kirchberg. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations can be made payable to Friends of the Crawford Park District or Gentiva Hospice and given through the funeral home.
