He was predeceased by: his parents, Gordon Bates and Reah Ruby Bates; and his wife Roena P. Smith Bates. He is survived by: his children, LaDonna Cordell (Bob), Lorraine Davis, Galen Bates (Michele), Glenda Skidmore (Dan), Bryan Bates and Leah Davis (Kevin); his grandchildren, Tyler Cordell (Rebecca), Tracy Davis, Gabrielle, Wade (Shania), Samuel Bates, Roy Skidmore (Nikki), Kelly Skidmore, Joshua Bates (April), Morgan Miller (Justin), Madison Heddleson (Cody), Ariel Bates (Trevor), Kevin Davis (Heather), Dustin Davis, Katlyn Dailey (Dave) and Kalob Davis; his sister-in-law Dorothy J. Schott (Don Bridgeman Sr.); and his nieces and nephews, Eddie, Elizabeth and Janie. He is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren.
