He was predeceased by: his parents, Gorrell "Jack" McAvoy and Hazel McAvoy (Williamson); his brothers, Jerry, Raymond, Roger and Dana; and his son Travis Parsons.

He is survived by: his wife Patricia McAvoy (Dean); his children, Jeff McAvoy, Jacqueline Waters (Aaron), Jennifer Snow (Denny), Dorman Parsons Jr. and Mark Parsons (Rebecca); his grandchildren, Emily Price (Chris), Sarah Waters, Aspen Scroggins (Breven), Keaton Snow, Jennifer Williamson (Jordon), Janet McCullough (Steve), Matthew Parsons (Kaycie) and Nathan Parsons; and his great grandchildren, Kadie, Markus, Sonny, Ryan, Jazmine, Alyssa, Ruby and Waylon. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
