He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Smallenbarger and Patsy Smallenbarger (Ostendorf); and his brother Scott Smallenbarger. He is survived by: his siblings, Spencer Smallenbarger (Debbie) and Shelley Helfinstine (Johnny) of West Milton; his sister-in-law Jana Smallenbarger of Troy; and his nieces and nephews, Sarah Baker (Kevin), Samantha Smallenbarger (Doug Poling), Sally Shields (Charlie), Jessica Smallenbarger (David Burgess), Matthew Smallenbarger (Amy Leonard), Nicole Landis (Josh) and Ian Lange (Caylin).
