He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Hess and Viola Ruth Hess; his wife Lareda Donaldson; his sister-in-law Lois Hess; and his brother Jack Hess.

He is survived by: his children, Troy Hess (Anne) of Science Hill, KY, Nicolas Hess (Jennifer) of Bainbridge, OH, Scott Hess of Sarasota, FL, Kellie Slusher (Lynn Jr.) of Southington, OH and Debra Hess of Claridon Township, OH; his grandchildren, Zachary Hess (London), Kayla Mariola (Mike), Faith Hess, Hope Hess, Amber Christian, Elizabeth Stolba (Ben), Emma Slusher, Everett Hess, Parker Hess, Tyler Hess, Patrick, Ryan Watts, Nicki Burke and Beth Warren; and his brothers, Curtis Hess (Pam) of Claridon Township, Dana Hess (Linn) of Orwell, Brian Hess (Lori) of Claridon Township and Alan Hess (Donna) of Dickson, TN.. He is also survived by great-grandchildren.
