He was predeceased by: his father John Frederick Carter, Sr.; and his brother Joseph Carter. He is survived by: his mother Patricia Shafer Carter of Chesapeake; his son Steven Carter of Salisbury, NC; his grandson Jashawn Anderson of Laurens, SC; his siblings, David Carter (Debbie) of Willow Wood, Ohio, Susan Carter Harmon (Michael) of Lexington and Kathryn Carter Allen (JJ) of Lexington; his sister-in-law Laureen Carter Benson (Mark) of Willow Wood, Ohio.; and his nieces and nephews, Josh Carter, Jared Carter, John Austin Harmon, Carter Allen, Laura Carter Hutchison, Amy Carter, Julie Carter, Jordan Harmon Stanley and Caroline Allen. He is also survived by six great nieces and nephews and many extended family.
