He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Ervin and Wilma Lavender Ervin; his wife Patricia Dalton; his sister Janice Bell; and his brother-in-law Robert Bell.

He is survived by: his children, Amy Ervin (Steve Roller) of Chillicothe and Matt Ervin (Michelle) of Springboro, OH; his grandchildren, Holly Speckman (Joel) and Sam Ervin; and his sisters, Gayle Mossbarger (Jim) of Indiana and Lorraine Gulley (Doug) of Oklahoma. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
