Allan John Ballah Obituary
It is with sadness that we announce the death of Allan John Ballah, born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, who passed away on July 27, 2025, at the age of 87, in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA from cancer.
Born to Doris and John Ballah on January 23, 1938, Allan grew up in working-class Edmonton. As a student, he grew to love the French language and after spending a year abroad in France, Allan decided to make his career teaching French at the University of Alberta, where he was a professor for more than 30 years. There, he took on the role of Faculty Director of the Language Lab, pioneering the use of digital technology in language instruction, and becoming an early adopter of video in his own classroom.
Allan was passionate about sports - particularly hockey and baseball. As a spectator, player, referee, and coach, he was engaged throughout his life and with his children in multiple school and league teams.
Allan is survived by his wife of 32 years Jody, and their daughter Sophie, and his sons Stuart and Brett.
