He was predeceased by : his wife Sherry Coots; his son Steven Schott (Jamie); his parents, Amos Coots (Jewel Coots) and Bruce; and his sister Elizabeth Coots.

He is survived by : his children, Aaron Coots, Dawn Coots and Laura Schott; his grandchildren, Noah Coots, Isaac Coots, Colin Coots-Hickey, Garret Rankin, Carson Schott, Brody Schott, Ryleigh Schott, Easton Schott and Jaxson Schott; his sister Julia Howard (David); his niece Amber Brannon (Bobby); and his nephew Austin Howard.
