He was predeceased by: his parents, Geraldine Bates and Harold Bates. He is survived by: his children, Cindy Bates of Seattle and Chris Bates of San Francisco; his daughter-in-law Chris Kloes; his grandson Leo Bates; his sister Donna Gross (Lou); his cousins, Tiffany Gross, Scott Gross, Chad Gross, Amy Wiedemer Stuart (Jim), Grace Stuart Szymanski (Josh), Jackie Stuart, Ben Stuart, Ollie Stuart, Karen Ramos (Doug), Sofia Ramos and Ramon Ramos; and his wife Joyce Ann Wiedemer. He is also survived by his family, friends.
