He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Merse and Martha Merse; and his grandson Luke. He is survived by: his wife Marcia Merse; his children, Melissa Merse, Eddie Merse, Mike Merse and Beth Atwood (Tim); his grandchildren, Spencer, Carly (Patrick), Kelsie and Connor; and his great grandchildren, Aubrie, Abel, Cora and Lettie.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cincinnati Veterans Medical Center or Juvenile Diabetes Association.
