He was predeceased by: his parents, Adele Fischer Merten and Harold A. Merten. He is survived by: his wife Marion Betz Merten; his brother David F. Merten, MD (Barbara Merten); his children, Harold A. Merten III and Susan Merten Roberts (John M. Roberts MD); and his grandchild Taylor R. Merten. He is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren.
