He was predeceased by: his parents, Katherine Earls Gerwin and Robert Francis Gerwin; his son James Atkinson Gerwin II; and his siblings, Robert Earls Gerwin and Elsie Gerwin Jansen.
He is survived by: his wife Ann Wham Gerwin; his children, Elsa Robey (John), Abigail Rhoades (Greg), Maxwell Gerwin (Renée) and Hilary Raidt (Michael); his sister Elizabeth Gerwin Clay; and his grandchildren, Eva, William, Heath Rhoades, Winnifred, Elliott, Louis Raidt and Cecilia Gerwin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
