He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Schafer and Lillian Schafer (Durant); his wife Janet (Eilerman); and his brothers, Father Jerry and Thomas.
He is survived by: his siblings, John (Jacqueline), Rosalie (Paul Vlahutin) and Ed (Lesta); his sisters-in-law, Joni Snyder, Frances Schafer (Dornette), Sue Auer (Eilerman) and Janet Eilerman (McDonald); and his children, Marianne Eshleman (Brock), Jim Schafer (Dina), Donna Schafer, Joe Schafer (Jaime), Ken Schafer (JoAnn), Julie Schroeder (Dan), Amy O'Keefe (James) and Chris Schafer (Kristy). He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
