He was predeceased by: his parents, James H. Stoehr Jr. and Olga Conroy Keumpel. He is survived by: his wife Amy Waller Stoehr; his children, James IV, Sydney Whedon (Samuel), Madeline Stoehr (Nathan Osborn) and Gretchen Luthy (Cameron); his siblings, Thomas Stoehr and Katherine Mohrlang (Durrell); and his grandchildren, James Stoehr V and Dorothy Whedon.
