He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Amy Ringel Friedman; his children, Aaron and Nina; his parents, Ruth Friedman and Alan Friedman; his parents-in-law, Phyllis and Howard Ringel; his sister Marla Luterman (Bill); his siblings-in-law, Jill Hart (David) and Bob Ringel (Jennifer); and his nieces and nephews, Andrew, Julia, Jack Luterman, Mitchell, Bennett, Sophie Hart, Charlie and Jack Ringel. He was also cherished by his many family members and friends.

“I worked with Jef almost every day as we worked in safety for Parsec serving the railroads. I woke him during the night many times or we talked every day when we were not traveling, I'll miss him... Many of you know he loved his ball teams and would poke all of us daily :) I knew one thing that was JOB #1 and that was his family, he loved his wife Amy and his children. Very proud of his son Aaron at Ohio St and his daughter Nina playing volleyball, I never met them, but he loved you all.”
