He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Schmitz and Mary Schmitz (Cafferky); his wife Margaret "Margie" Schmitz (Ernst); and his siblings, Mary Ernst, Jean Schmidt, Ruth Gilligan, James Schmitz and Patricia Fath.
He is survived by: his children, John F. Schmitz (Emily), Peggy Schmidt (David) and Maureen Mechley (Mark); and his grandchildren, Ezekiel, Matthew, William, Luke Schmitz, Taylor Anthony (Matthew), Emily of Ryan, J. P., Adam and Andrew Mechley. He is also survived by relatives, colleagues, and friends.
