He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Jane Mattei; and his siblings, Innocente Mattei (Della) and Victor Mattei (Marita). He is survived by: his children, Thomas Mattei (Joan), David Mattei (Peggy), Barbara Mattei-Smith (Joseph), Stephen Mattei, John Mattei (Eva) and James Mattei (Andrea); his grandchildren, Andrew (Megan), Matthew, Emilie, David (Molly), Ashley (Marshall), Megan, Nick, Angela, Evan (Nicole), Jon, Camille and Alex; and his brother Robert Mattei (Janet). He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Dominic Education Fund or Hospice of Cincinnati.
