He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Mary Anne Christmann; his children, Joseph E. Jr. (Lisa Yates), Jeffrey (Elizabeth), John (Julie), James (Holly) and Julie Christmann; his grandchildren, Nate (Em), Hannah, Jake, Alex, Sam and Ben; and his sisters, Carolyn Stein (late Robert) and Sarah Christmann.
