He was predeceased by: his father Melvin Kist; his brother Kevin Kist; and his pets, Oscar and Foster. He is survived by: his mother Mary Kist; his sisters, Caroline Melson, Kathy Bennett (Brad), Monica Kuzma (Paul), Ann Kolasa (Valdi) and Julie Kist (Christopher Comstock); his siblings' children, Vardo (Sheika), Christian (Abby), Carrie, Nathan, Allie, Lena, Zachary, Henry, Lolo, Maeve, Kuba, Alek and Iza; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Mally, Zuri, Faye, Callan and Xander.
