Margaret Louise (Schmidt) Downey Obituary

With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Margaret Louise (Schmidt) Downey of Cincinnati, Ohio, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on October 20, 2025 at the age of 99. She was predeceased by: her parents, Oscar Schmidt and Louise Schmidt (Merkel); her husband Owen K. Downey; her son Howard Downey; and her siblings, Harold Schmidt and Betty Pigman.

She is survived by: her children, Phyllis Weaver (Rodger) of Bennington, IN, Wayne Downey (Theresa) of Hope, IN and Sharon Waltz (Ron) of Hope, IN; her daughter-in-law Elizabeth; and her grandchildren, Scott Weaver (Bridgett), Marlene Baker (Deron), Becky Crowder (Lucas), Nathan Downey (Sheila), Dana Downey, Christi Waltz (Brian), Kim Waltz, Tracey Waltz, Ryan Waltz (Paige), Patrick Downey (Libby), John Downey, Erika Slinker (Rob), Samantha Downey, Amanda Woods (Brad), Allyson Bennett (Aidan), Marie Downey, Grace Downey, Eliza Downey, Jael Downey, Lily Downey, Owen Downey, Chelsea Meiners (Guillermo), Natalie Patrie (Justin) and Marin Meiners. She is also survived by ses 7 children (plus spouses), 24 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, October 25th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Hope (455 Jackson St, Hope, IN 47246). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 25th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.

Donations may be made in her honor and memory to the First Baptist Church of Hope and Our Hospice of South Central Indiana (2626 E. 17th St., Columbus, IN 47201).
