He is survived by: his wife Linda Glisson; his children, Scott Shafer and Karen Schmitt; and his grandchildren, Arik Shafer, Conner Shafer, Morgan Peters (Shafer), Zach Schmitt, Elijah Schmitt, Rebecca Schmitt, Matthew Schmitt, Sydney Sexton and Hayden Sexton. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
