He was predeceased by: his brothers, Morton A. Shaw and Sanford Shaw; and his parents, Lottie Shapiro and Isadore Shapiro. He is survived by: his wife Helen Shapiro; his children, Gary Nelson (Emma), Ira Shapiro (Ann) and Diane Shapiro Richer (Mark); and his grandchildren, Benjamin, Madeline, Ashley, Baylee, Cari, Ryan, Kristen, Melanie, Matthew, Jeremy and Sam.

Contributions in Fred's memory may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, the Alzheimer's Association, or Interlochen Center for the Arts.
