He was predeceased by: his parents, Anna Belle Cunningham McElrath and Otis Fomby; his daughter Grace Franklin; his grandson Fadell Walter; his great grandchild Matthew Johnson Jr.; and his sisters, Louise Reeves and Catherine of Washington.

He is survived by: his daughters, Jeannette Moore and Belinda. He is also survived by 32 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; 20 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
