He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Lanney and Wilma Lanney (Firestone); his grandparents, Howard and Gertrude Firestone; and his in-laws, Sandra Shessler and Joseph O'Brien.

He is survived by: his family, Firestone Electric (Salem), Joe Dickey Electric (North Lima) and Liberty Electric (Columbiana); his wife Lisa Lanney (O'Brien); his children, Erin Clemmer (Nicholas) and Ian Lanney; his grandchildren, Annah Bell, Leah Renee and Alexander James Clemmer; his brothers, Kevin and Dennis Lanney; and his siblings-in-law, Teri Takach and Chuck Takach.

He walked his grandchildren to and from school every day, regardless of the weather, and taught them at home during the COVID shutdown in what they fondly called "Papa School.".
