He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Stearns and Mabel Stearns; his wife Rita Stearns; his son Bobbie Stearns; and his brothers, James Stearns, Charles Stearns and Carl Clinton Stearns.

He is survived by: his sons, David Stearns (Annie), Richard Stearns (Beth) and Danny Stearns (Tosha); and his sisters, Mildred Hanes, Patricia Wycuff (Bob) and Kim Witcher. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and friends.
