He was predeceased by: his parents, William Merz and Ethel Merz of Circleville, Ohio.; his wife Loretta "Lori" Merz; and his children, Tom Merz and Kathy Watrous.
He is survived by: his children, Mike Merz (Karen), Marty Merz (Debra) and Don Smals (Suzette); and his granddaughter Loretta V. Smals (Nicole Vizedom). He is also survived by great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
