He was predeceased by: his father James Yates; his stepfather Terry Wimer (Cherokee); and his brothers, Elton Ray and Jerry Yates. He is survived by: his daughter Crystal Lyons (Josh); his mother Patricia Wimer; his siblings, Susie Messer, Judy Smiar, Allen Yates and Patchey Yates (Areil); and his grandchildren, Jimma Jarrell and Jameson Lyons. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family is asking for donations to help with funeral expenses.
