John leaves behind cherished memories for friends, family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. John’s life was marked by connections and experiences that touched those around him. Though he is no longer with us, the moments shared, the laughter, and the support he offered will continue to resonate. All who knew John will carry forward his memory in their hearts.
He is survived by: his wife Janet Downey (Gaines); his children, John Downey, Lida Jackson (Rick), Walter Downey (Lisa) and Jacinta Bowen (Jason); his sisters, Mary Debitetto and Nancy Buoni; and his siblings-in-law, Polly Elliott, Rose Branham, Nel Branham and Roy Joe Gaines (Vivian). He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 28th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Tidd Funeral Home (5265 Norwich St, Hilliard, OH 43026). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, September 29th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the St. Margaret of Cortona (1600 N Hague Ave, Columbus, OH 43204).
