He was predeceased by: his sibling Stacey Lynn Straughter. He is survived by: his siblings, Melvin of Nevada and Stephanie Ann Straughter of Tacoma Washington; and his son Stephan Jamar Straughter of Springfield. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

“I am sorry for your loss. You all will be in my prayers and thoughts. My name is susan, and john and i worked together at riverside in the ed. It seemed like john and i always ended up in the break room around the same time, so we shared many meals together. I missed him when he moved to alabama and feel fortunate that i got to see him for a visit when he moved back. He was an extraordinary man and will be missed.”
